Tampines MRT Station Guide 2026 — EWL, DTL, Exits & Connections
Tampines is served by two MRT lines — but not in the way most people expect. The East-West Line (EWL) and the Downtown Line (DTL) at Tampines are two separate stations in two separate buildings, roughly 300 metres apart. This guide covers both stations: which lines they serve, station codes, all seven exits mapped correctly, journey times, the bus interchange connection, and how to transfer between lines.

The EWL runs from Pasir Ris (EW1) in the east to Tuas Link (EW33) in the west. From Tampines, it connects directly to Simei, Tanah Merah (where you change for Changi Airport), Paya Lebar, City Hall, Raffles Place, and Jurong East without transfer.

Transferring Between EWL and DTL
Because the two stations are separate buildings, transferring takes more planning than at a standard interchange like Jurong East or Raffles Place.
Steps:
- Tap out at your arrival station.
- Walk the covered walkway (~300m, fully sheltered) between stations — the path runs through the Tampines Bus Interchange area.
- Tap in at the destination station.
- Re-enter within 15 minutes on the same EZ-Link or NETS FlashPay card — the journey counts as a single trip and no double fare is charged.
Budget an extra 5–8 minutes when planning journeys that require a line change at Tampines.
Connection to Tampines Bus Interchange
DTL Exit D has a fully sheltered walkway directly into Tampines Bus Interchange — no rain exposure from station to bus. The interchange serves 23+ bus routes to Bedok, Changi, Pasir Ris, Punggol, and areas across Tampines.
EWL Exit A also connects to the interchange area from the elevated station side.
A 250m sheltered corridor also links Tampines Bus Interchange to Tampines Concourse Bus Interchange, accessible from DTL Exit E, further expanding the bus network reachable from both MRT stations.
Station Facilities & Practical Info
Opening hours: Both stations operate approximately 5:30am–midnight on weekdays and Saturdays, with slightly later first trains on Sundays. Check SMRT’s website for the current timetable — last trains to Pasir Ris and to Expo each depart within that window.
Passenger service centres: Customer service counters are located at both the EWL and DTL stations during operating hours.
Taxi and Grab: Taxi stands are located near both stations. For Grab, the bus interchange entrance at DTL Exit D and the ground-level area near EWL Exit A are the most practical pickup points with clear road access.
Barrier-free access: EWL Exits A and B are step-free. DTL Exits D, E, and G are barrier-free — Exit G is the only lift-served exit on the DTL side and is the recommended route for wheelchair users, prams, or heavy luggage. See the exits guide for the full accessibility breakdown.
